Empowering Women in Gaming: Ubisoft's Journey Towards Inclusivity and Equality

Celebrating International Women's Day is about acknowledging women’s achievements, rsing awareness on the issues they face dly, and advocating for an inclusive world that encourages everyone to play their part in creating a more equal society. At Ubisoft, our commitment to ensuring women have a fr place in the workplace starts with understanding the challenges they encounter.

In 2023, we at Ubisoft Canadian studios are proud to receive Silver Parity Certification from Women in Governance. This recognition is both an acknowledgment of our accomplishments and a call for continued efforts towards fostering inclusivity across our organizations.

As Erin Roach, Director of Diversity and Inclusion states, This certification highlights the work we've done so far but also outlines the path ahead. We understand there's still much to achieve and are committed to using this feedback as a catalyst for change.

Catherine Lemyre, Vice President of Talent Management at our Canadian studios, further elaborates on the initiatives that have been implemented to support women's development:

The ger disparity in gaming contrasts sharply with the reality of enthusiastic gamers being predominantly female. However, the industry has historically struggled with underrepresentation of women, partly due to barriers like lack of roleand workplace conditions that aren't always favorable.

In response to these challenges, Ubisoft has embarked on a multifaceted approach including:

  1. Respectful Workplace Initiatives: Following the events that brought unacceptable behaviors to light, we implemented robust policies med at changing our corporate culture.

  2. Trning Programs: We conducted trning and awareness sessions focusing on unconscious biases and microaggressions, empowering employees to recognize and mitigate their impact.

  3. Internal and External Collaboration: Drawing inspiration from successful initiatives like Nova, a professional development program; Develop at Ubisoft, which fosters career advancement for women in leadership roles; and the external Dare to Empower program that offers safe spaces for sharing experiences, addressing challenges, and proposing practical solutions.

Catherine envisions an innovative model that builds upon these successes:

  1. Enhanced Leadership Engagement: Managers will play a pivotal role in supporting participants' journeys by facilitating discussions about career paths and providing constructive feedback.

  2. Systemic Changes: The goal is to make lasting alterations to the organizational culture through targeted initiatives focused on systemic risks prevalent across our company.

  3. Program Expansion: Catherine ext this model across all women's teams and production managers in Canada, seeking to implement it within the next two years.

  4. Empowerment and Potential: Ultimately, she aspires to legitimize women's professional experiences so they can fully realize their potential and unlock it. This eavor, she says, will not only improve women's experience at work but also enable us to craft games that a broader audience.
